How Does Botox® Work?
Botox, or Botulinum toxin, works by temporarily blocking nerve signals to muscles, preventing them from contracting. Once injected, Botox blocks the release of acetylcholine, a chemical messenger that signals muscles to contract. With acetylcholine blocked, your targeted muscles will begin to relax. This relaxation reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines caused by repetitive muscle contractions, such as frown lines between the eyebrows or crow's feet around the eyes.

Three layers comprise normal skin: the epidermis or outer layer, the dermis or middle layer, and the innermost layer of fat. The major component of the dermis is collagen.
